10 Tips For Planning The Perfect Event

I'm always asked by couples for advice on how to make sure their wedding is successful, and I share the following tips. There are times when some of these can't be avoided, but if you follow most of them, your guests will rave about your reception for years to come!

  • Your guests will be where you are. If you're on the dance floor, the guests will be too

  • Don't micromanage the timeline. I do need the order of events but not necessarily the exact time for each

  • If there are older guests, try not to sit them close, or right in front of the speakers (Personally, this should be rule #1)

  • PLEASE don't put me in an obstructed location or corner. I need to be near the dance floor with a clear line of sight so I can see it and get a feel for the crowd.

  • With dance floor lighting, keep in mind that the darker the room, the better. Use dimmers for chandeliers, cafe lighting, etc. if possible

  • If you have a bar or photo booth, try to put it in the main room where the dance floor is. You want to keep people near the dance floor at all times

  • When picking songs, take into account not only your tastes, but your guest's as well

  • You ALWAYS want to leave the guests wanting more. It's not your responsibility to entertain them until 2 AM

  • When picking your music, don't overdo it. Pick 20 or so songs you like or don't, and let me fill in the rest (it's what you hired me for, after all)

  • MOST IMPORTANT - If you have to cut corners on your budget, don't skimp on your entertainment - it can make or break your event!
